Twitter is fast building up a whole new vocabulary. Publishers of Collins dictionary have added dozens of new words to its latest edition, thanks to the social networking site. Words like ‘Tweetheart’, a user admired by many, and ‘tweet tooth’, a strong desire to send a tweet, have made it to the dictionary.
A host of other words that were previously mere sounds have also been added. ‘Meh’, a sound denoting disapproval, ‘mwah’ and ‘huh’ have also made the cut. The phenomenon reflects the rise of social networking and its influence on popular culture. With over 25 million users accessing Twitter, it does not come as a surprise that virtual is fast becoming real.
