Mother Teresa, Tipu Sultan, Uttam Kumar and Bahadur Shah Zafar have one thing in common—all have train stations named after them in Kolkata. Mamata Banerjee announced the new names while presenting the rail budget: the Chandni Chowk Metro station is now called Tipu Sultan, Park Street is Mother Teresa and Tollygunge is Mahanayak Uttam Kumar. Till Banerjee’s renaming drive, stations had been named after the locality where they were situated. This re-naming has confused passengers and Metro rail authorities alike. In this melee, a small publisher has, overnight, printed a leaflet that contains both the new and original names of various metro stations. And the CPM is alleging that this publisher is a Trinamool functionary.
