Their dreams of a free homeland may be stuck, but as of next year it will become easier for Tibetans to take off—literally. In May, the Chinese government will launch Tibet Airlines, the first carrier based in southwestern Tibet. The company will be headquartered at Konggar Airport in Tibetan capital Lhasa. The airline will provide domestic passenger and cargo services, starting from mid-2011. An official of the airline has been quoted saying that the carrier will have 20 aircraft in the first five years of operation.
