Europe’s No 1 budget airline has acquired the distinction of being the world’s foremost penny pincher.
If you thought budget airlines in India are bad, you have never travelled RyanAir. Europe’s No 1 budget airline has acquired the distinction of being the world’s foremost penny pincher. The airline’s new CEO wants to remove two of the onboard toilets on each of his aircraft and replace them with six seats. He is currently in talks with Boeing to come up with a loo door that will accept credit cards.
Michael O’Leary argued, “When Moses came down after meeting the Lord, one of the tablets didn’t say you can pee for free on an aircraft, did it?” This however, isn’t the worst of the airline’s schemes. Although you can pick up a ticket for as little as £1, infants-in-arm are charged £20. The airline charges £30 to check in a piece of baggage, £60 to check in sports and music equipment. It even imposes a ‘wheelchair levy’ on all passengers and was mulling charging passengers for a barf bag and a controversial ‘fat tax’. The airline has already announced its plans to do away with check-in counters and baggage handlers. It imposes a fee on every passenger who checks in online and a whopping £40 fee for those who turn up without a print-out of their boarding pass.
