Colonel Munindra Nath Rai, who died fighting terrorists in Kashmir just 24 hours after he was awarded a Republic Day gallantry medal, is yet another valiant example of the men in uniform who put their lives on the line to protect our right to live.
Colonel Rai’s last status on the mobile messaging service WhatsApp, posted two months ago, showed an unflinching sense of dedication towards his country. ‘Play your role in life with such passion, that even after the curtains come down, the applause doesn’t stop,’ his WhatsApp status read.
Expectedly, liberals, reeling under the guilt of ‘an oppressive Indian State’, have chosen to look the other way. Politically correct television channels that turn out to be bully pulpits when liberals claim that every man in uniform has his finger on the trigger, talked very little about the sacrifice of Colonel Rai. The response of the political class, too, was not any different. It is time we respect those who defend us. We cannot be ingrates.
