Not only is the IPL trophy ugly, it’s also flawed—the position of his hands on the bat is wrong
The jeweller Orra says it used 2,554 diamonds to make the IPL trophy. An equal number of adjectives were employed by the IPL fold to extoll its virtues when the trophy was unveiled last year. Lalit Modi, the tournament commissioner, and Vijay Jain, Orra CEO, called it an “exquisite work of art”. But the trophy is not only ugly, it’s also flawed. It attempts to depict the same batsman as in the IPL logo—a right-hander driving off the back foot—but the position of his hands on the bat is wrong. His left hand is the bottom hand instead of the right. “That we are continuing with the same trophy is a reflection of how much people liked it,” Jain said. When pointed out the error, he said he would get back. He didn’t.
