When Maharashtra minister Bhaskar Jadhav’s personal assistant put his bag into the scanner at the Maharashtra Vidhan Sabha, he did not think much of it. But the scanner showed a revolver. The PA was scared. The gun was not his. He was taken to a side room and the minister’s number was dialled. The minister’s intervention saved him. It was then discovered that Mantralaya had an upgraded version of the software it was using for the scanners. Every few bags, the system throws in a knife or revolver to check the alertness of the security personnel. But what happens when such an object is discovered in the bag of just another visitor? The issue, raised in the Legislative Assembly during the ongoing Budget Session, generated much heat. Home Minister RR Patil has ordered an inquiry.
