An octogenarian and an IIT professor are the unlikely winners of a new writing prize.
An octogenarian and an IIT professor are the unlikely winners of a new writing prize sponsored by the British literary agency Tibor Jones & Associates. The manuscripts sent in by winners Srikumar Sen and Rohit Manchanda were considered so good that judges decided to declare them joint winners. The 80-year-old Sen lives in London and has worked as a journalist with The Guardian and The Times, London. His last assignment was as boxing correspondent with The Times, London. Manchanda teaches biomechanical engineering at IIT Powai (Mumbai). Manchanda has previously won the Betty Trask award for his novel, In the Light of the Black Sun.
The Tibor Jones South Asia Prize is meant to encourage new, unpublished talent. The panel of judges was headed by Amit Chaudhuri. The winners split Rs 100,000 in cash and get represented by Tibor Jones & Associates.
