A team of five researchers from the Bangalore-based Institute of Bioinformatics and Applied Biotechnology (IBAB) has designed a novel mobile-phone-like device that will make analysis of a person’s genetic structure faster and simpler. This technology, which will cut costs dramatically,
will do away with the traditional processes that require complicated equipment and specialised knowledge. This device will also help in the diagnosis of diseases such as cancer and Alzheimer’s in a matter of minutes. The team is hopeful that the device will be available in the Indian market within the next couple of years.
