A growing band of young stone-pelters in Kashmir is mobilising support on social networking sites.
‘In the context of a place that is both violent and volatile, being online, or on the cell phone, is like crack cocaine—it means total escape,’ wrote Justine Hardy, founder of mental health NGO, Healing Kashmir, about young Kashmiris, in a recent newspaper column. That explains why the growing band of young stone-pelters in Kashmir is mobilising support on social networking sites. Check out Facebook communities Kaushur-haatyar-Kanne-Jang (stone pelting) and the All Kashmir Stone-Pelters Association. With more than 300 fans between them, ‘Stone Power’ seems to be growing. ‘If India gives us bullets, can’t we throw at least stones?’ asks an agitator.
