Who can forget the press statements, rebuttals and clarifications last year when Sonam Kapoor chirpily claimed she was invited to the Cannes film festival instead of longtime ambassador Aishwarya Rai? It was left to fashion brand L’Oreal to awkwardly clear things up about which of their ambassadors would tog up for the flashbulbs. Ash triumphantly won the round; Sonam alleged that Ash had used her ‘connections’ to sabotage her Cannes debut. This year, it’s still unclear if Sonam is invited to walk the red carpet at the world’s biggest film fest. Well, she’s earned her spurs as a fashionista. But we’re rooting for Ash. After all, we need some fashion disasters between her and mother-in-law Jaya Bachchan. In 2008, after seeing Mrs Bachchan in her over-sized blue tent/ghagra, the press labelled her a ‘she-leprechaun’.
