No woman had been elected to key posts in the CPM in Kerala till Komalavally Raveendran.
Komalavally Raveendran, a member of Thanjoor panchayat in Kottayam district for 12 years, and active in the CPM for longer, made history when she was elected Secretary of the Local Committee in Kottayam district in the party’s organisational polls held recently. Until her appointment, no woman had been elected to key posts in the CPM in Kerala. Raveendran, who’s been active in the CPM for over a decade, says that patriarchy is everywhere, and the Communist party is no exception.
