A businessman was late for his flight and asked his cab driver to reach the airport quickly.
The cab was going at 60 kmph, while the speed limit was 50. Sure enough, the driver was hauled up for speeding, and fined Rs 200. This took up five minutes and delayed the businessman further. On reaching the airport, the businessman gave the driver Rs 50 above the fare as compensation. But should he have paid more, he wondered. It was only 25 per cent of the fine. Should he have paid half, or even the full fine? The cabbie had taken a risk on his behalf. But again, hadn’t the driver made him later than he would have been if he’d stuck to the speed limit? Shouldn’t the cabbie be grateful for any tip at all? Did the businessman do the right thing or not?
