No public figure says unflattering things about Amitabh Bachchan, however well-intentioned. Ameen Sayani did.
No public figure says unflattering things about Amitabh Bachchan, however well-intentioned. Ameen Sayani did.
Bachchan was felicitating Sunil Gavaskar and GR Viswanath, at the Rangsharda auditorium in Mumbai recently.
Sayani, the veteran radio broadcaster, was among the celebrities in attendance. “Amitabh Bachchan played a huge role in my career,” Sayani said. “Before he became an actor, he sought a job in radio. He came to my office to meet me but I was busy. He enjoyed sandwiches on the house and flirted with the secretaries. But after three visits, he stopped coming… I’m glad he became an actor. With that voice he would have put me out of the radio business.” Then, Sayani made a surprisingly candid remark.
“Amitabh has fame, wealth, success. But despite being younger than me (by 10 years) he’s looking older.” Turning to Bachchan, he said, “Please do look after yourself.” Bachchan had flown back jetlagged from London the same day. But he’s the Big Baap still.
