A group of medicos has come up with a novel way of fighting the rising crime against women in the capital. As part of its Red Chilli campaign, the group encourages people to carry a pack of red chillies to blind their assailants. The team members also teach women other simple self-defence tips that include walking on pavements facing the traffic and not along with it, and keeping all phone numbers on emergency dial. According to campaign director Shalini Malik, this mirchi jhonk group is by women for women. She requests people to come forth and volunteer for counselling, self-defence training or joining the response team. The group also runs a helpline that women can call in case of an emergency.
