Shekhar Kapur and Julia Roberts are not such an unlikely pair, considering that Kapur is one of India’s few successful exports to Hollywood. But it’s an alliance of a different sort. Kapur is going to direct a biopic on the English mountaineer George Mallory which Julia Roberts’ production company, Red Om Films, is co-producing. Mallory, a legend among mountaineers, tried to scale Everest several times, and in his third attempt at the summit disappeared in 1924. His remains were found after 75 years. Details are sketchy but the hero is unlikely to be anyone from Bollywood, since Mallory, alas, happens to be White.
