Japan’s favourite Indian hero is planning a solidarity visit to the tsunami-ravaged country. Tamil megastar Rajinikanth, in a condolence meeting held in Chennai, had this to say about the Japanese: “The world knows the legendary ability of the Japanese people to bounce back...I pray to the Almighty that no further calamity visits the wonderful, hardworking and beautiful people of Japan.” According to reports, he is in touch with fan associations to coordinate relief efforts. Rajini commands quite a fan base in the island nation that saw the Japanese version of his 1995 film Muthu released there—an achievement that found mention by no less than Prime Minister Manmohan Singh during his visit to Japan in 2006.
