A senior accountant with the Audit General’s office in Chennai was caught redhanded stealing a new car for the sake of thrill.
Finally, his calculations went wrong. A senior accountant with the Audit General’s office in Chennai was caught redhanded by the city police a few days ago for stealing a new Honda City car from the highsecurity campus of computer major HCL. According to police officials, stealing new cars was 35yearold Andrew Rajkumar’s hobby and he would abandon the cars by the roadside once the thrill of driving them wore off. Stealing the HCL general manager’s car, however, proved to be his doom. The HCL manager had taken delivery of the car a day before the theft. Rajkumar, who was present at the showroom at the same time, somehow managed to pocket the car’s original keys, forcing the showroom to provide the owner with a substitute bunch. Fortunately for the HCL executive, he’d left his mobile phone inside the car, enabling the police to track the car to the parking lot of the AG’s office. With this break, the police feel they might solve the mystery of several other car thefts. As for Rajkumar, this has proved to be one costly hobby.
