Sergio Aguero is one of the most compelling stories in sport. He is not just a striker for Argentina, but also the son-in-law of Diego Maradona. Maradona is not just Aguero’s father-in-law, he is also the coach of the national team. Here’s Aguero, 21, on the legendary Maradona, in an interview with World Soccer magazine:
“I know when I’m with the national team, he is not my father-in-law but the coach,” Aguero said. “Outside football, he’s my father-in-law and we act more like family. On the national team, though, I have to work in the same way I did with the previous coaches. Also, I don’t want the other players to think I’m getting preferential treatment. Obviously, we also talk about football in private, but about general things, not so much the national team.” Aguero is married to Giannina, the second of Maradona’s two daughters. The couple have a son, Benjamin.
