Mumbai’s Mayor Dr Shubha Raul has cautioned couples against the perils of venturing too far out on to the rocks facing the sea in search of privacy.
One of the jobs of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is to come in the way of lovers’ caresses. City Mayor Dr Shubha Raul has cautioned couples against the perils of venturing too far out on to the rocks facing the sea in search of privacy.
In accordance with Raul’s instructions, boards with tide warnings will be displayed prominently at all the beaches of Mumbai during the monsoon months. Besides, security guards have also been posted to ‘educate’ people, particularly lovers, about high tides and to dissuade them from seeking isolated spots.
Last year, several couples had got stranded on the rocks at Bandra Bandstand last year. Engrossed, they had ignored the rising sea level, and had to be rescued by beach guards. They were lucky. The unpredictability of the waves in the monsoons has been the cause of several deaths each year. From people sitting on the promenade parapets to lovers on the rocks, many have been swept away by sudden waves.
In Mumbai, lovers are accustomed to authorities trying to displace them from their nooks. For a change, even they’re not complaining about an effort to stop them from getting swept off their feet.
