The Pulitzer prizes, announced last week, had a few Indian connections. Here’s a list:

»The history prize went to US-based investment manager Liaquat Ahamed for his book Lords of Finance: The Bankers Who Broke the World, a tale of four powerful bankers who played crucial roles in triggering the Great Depression and ultimately transformed the US into the world’s financial leader. Ahamed, who studied at Cambridge and Harvard universities, has origins in Kenya where his forefathers migrated from India.

»One of the jurors was Jai Singh, managing editor of The Huffington Post.

»A finalist in the drama category was Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo by Rajiv Joseph. Joseph’s father migrated to the US when he was 18.

»The Washington Post won four Pulitzers. Two were for the Post magazine (Gene Weingarten for Feature Writing) and Style (Sarah Kaufman for Criticism), both sections headed by co-managing editor Raju Narisetti.

»Under the leadership of Sonny Mehta, editor-in-chief of Alfred A Knopf, the publishing house was this year’s winner in Biography or Autobiography: The First Tycoon: The Epic Life of Cornelius Vanderbilt by TJ Stiles, and finalists in Cheever: A Life by Blake Bailey; and Woodrow Wilson: A Biography by John Milton Cooper Jr.
