The February 2010 catalogue for J Crew, the American high-street fashion label that is a constant of Michelle Obama’s wardrobe, has a familiar face: of Bangalore girl Lakshmi Menon. For years, J Crew’s catalogue has offered inspiration to millions of women, who use its pictures to tailor the season’s latest designs in cities without J Crew stores. For Menon, it’s the latest feather in a superlative modeling career, one of the most successful for an Indian model. In the past two years, Menon, who began modeling in 2001, became the sole face of Hermès, the muse for design house Givenchy, and has walked for Jean Paul Gaultier and Stella MaCartney. Represented by Ford modeling agency, 29-year-old Menon is best known for her trademark pout.
