Recently, researchers at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, Maryland, USA, found that with change of microbiota (different species of micro-organisms that live inside a healthy body) in the stomach, lab-bred rats deficient in a particular gene started over-eating and became obese. But once the rats’ systems were cleaned of the ‘obese microbiota’, their eating behaviour returned to normal. Here’s another reason for a stomach purge.
