Goodbye, 25 Paise

If you have one of those sweet, round 25 paise coins lying around, put it away. It’ll probably be worth much more in a few years. The Finance Ministry has put in a proposal to the Union Cabinet to stop the production of these coins, like the 10-paise and 5 paise coins before. They plan to reshape the 50 paise coin in the 25 paise size and weight. Similarly, the one-rupee coin will go the 50 paise way and the Rs 2 one will be refashioned in the Re 1 format.  The reason for the downsizing is inflation. The rising prices of steel mean the metal value of the rupee coins is more than their face value.
