Infected chicken and beef feed has led to the death of five tigers, and left 13 more critically ill at the Bannerghatta Biological Park near Bangalore. The park, famous for having one of the country’s largest number of captive tigers (45), first reported a death two weeks ago, followed by one every day before authorities reacted and separated the animals. While post-mortems revealed salmonella in the meat, authorities have ruled out a deliberate act of poisoning for the time being. Some of the animals have stopped eating and are being fed intravenously. Doctors estimate it will take a few more weeks before they recover fully.
