Considered one of the most priceless literary treasures of all times, the epic is being condemned for its “salacious passages and profanities, which can’t be acceptable in Egyptian society”. Members of a group which calls itself Islamist Lawyers without Shackles find the very idea of an insatiable woman offensive and derogatory. They believe that this kind of literature would only be acceptable in the West, not in Egypt, where women are presumably well satisfied.
