The humble homespun khadi is all set to sport an international look. The Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) is planning to use contemporary designs and natural colours to make khadi attractive to international markets. The first step is khadi jeans. Fashion shows will also be held across the country to highlight khadi’s latest trends. “A large number of NRI entrepreneurs are looking to invest in khadi. Our fabric is very similar to muslin, which is quite a rage among foreigners. The demand for khadi in the international market is huge,” says Samir Kumar of KVIC, which is aiming to make khadi skin friendly and eco-friendly as well.
