The current king of the world of films, James Cameron, is planning his next conquest—in the world of literature. Cameron, whose latest blockbuster, Avatar, beat his earlier film Titanic to become the highest grossing Hollywood film ever, is now sharpening his pencil to make his debut as a novelist. His first book will be a prequel to Avatar, “something that would lead up to telling the story of the movie, but would go into much more depth about all the stories that we didn’t have time to deal with”, the film’s producer, Jon Landau, is reported to have said. These, he says, would include Sigourney Weaver’s character teaching at the schoolhouse, how Jake reached Pandora, the death of Jake’s brother and details of Colonel Quaritch’s past. Landau also says that if the novel is a success, they may consider letting others write stories about this world. Confirming the news, Cameron told The Wall Street Journal, “There are things you can do in books that you can’t in films.” Well, at least, he may finally give Avatar a story to accompany its spectacular visuals.
