Ever since the tabloid Mumbai Mirror, true to all tenets of film journalism, ran a wholly unsubstantiated piece on Aishwarya Rai suffering from stomach tuberculosis, father-in-law Amitabh Bachchan is running a blog mission to demand an apology. The news item appeared on 18 February and that same day, Bachchan blogged about it: ‘If anyone will speak derogatorily about her, I shall fight for her till my last breath… if you shall make injudicious remarks on the women in my home, I shall not tolerate it!!!’ From then on, the font size has got larger and the colour has changed to red. Since the article did not carry a byline, he addressed the editor: ‘Ms Menal Baghel, your paper has maliciously slandered the modesty of another woman… !!’ The paper has carried a note by Aishwarya but remains silent on apologising. Nor has it clarified whether it stands by the report which quotes a close family friend.
