The ad for Hyundai’s i10 model had a full-on blooper that showed a cricket coach playing a ‘leg drive’.
Car advertisements in India have a fine tradition of being boring. Most of them are based on stock themes. Recently, Hyundai managed to go one better. It made a commercial with a full-on blooper. The ad, for its i10 model, showed a cricket coach playing a ‘leg drive’. Harsha Bhogle tweeted, ‘Keep watching this Hyundai i10 ad. What is a leg drive?’ Innocean, Hyundai’s in-house advertising agency, could not be reached for comment (or tips to play the leg drive). Though the error was belatedly fixed, it was surprising that it took a top company so long to realise the mistake. There’s a lesson in this for international companies doing business in India: get an orientation course in cricket.
