‘Aman ki Asha’, the campaign heralded by The Times of India and the Jang Group, is the newspapers’ second try at regional peace in the past six years. In 2005-06, the media houses threw their weight behind Friends Without Borders, a grassroots movement in which Indian schoolchildren wrote letters to Pakistani kids (the campaign received much publicity). This was pointed out by Marc Jacobs, one of the men behind FWB and Dil se Dil (another campaign he helped launch), in an online opinion piece last month. He wondered about the origin of the new campaign, and noted that the logo bore a slight resemblance to the Dil se Dil insignia. But he lauded the initiative nevertheless.
