From April 15, Air India’s female cabin crew will wear a uniform designed by Ritu Beri—a red and black striped sari, with a blouse of either colour. Beri’s original design had only the black blouse. But the crew saw red. Those with dark skin felt the colour wouldn’t suit them. Others felt black was inauspicious. So the airline introduced red too. Beri was not happy. But then, anything to see a cheerful face onboard.
