A Conversation with Malaika Arora Khan

“Fascinated by the whole idea of contestants trying to find their soulmates in front of thousands of people.”

Q You’ll now be on Star Plus’ new reality show, Perfect Bride. You seem to be the most wanted celebrity on TV.

A Well, I certainly seem to have done them all, be it singing or dancing shows on TV. I started my TV stint with Star Plus with Nach Baliye for two seasons and it went on from there. They always approach me whenever there is a new show and Perfect Bride is a very good concept. Also, I fit the show, being a happily married lady with a child. I draw from my personal experiences on the show, which is a first for me. I am fascinated by the whole idea of the contestants trying to find their soulmates in front of thousands of people.

Q Which is your favourite reality show on the tube?

A Dus Ka Dum, for obvious reasons. Salman is really phenomenal in it.

Q Movies didn’t really work out for you, but you’re still a bigger star than most actors.

A I am blessed with the star status that I have been bestowed by the industry, and the adulation of the public as a result of the work I do. I’ve never consciously pursued a career in films so the question of it not working out for me doesn’t arise. There was never a strategy in place for my career as such.

Q Career woman, mum, wife… what role do you pack in most of the day? What’s a regular day for you?

A Mum most definitely! My day begins with getting my six-year-old son Arhaan to school, then off to my gym and work and back in the evening with family. My activities are mostly planned around Arhaan—like when he goes swimming, I go with him. My life is a healthy balance of work, family and me-time.
