BJP Announces Month-Long ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’ to Mark Modi’s 25 Years in Office

The BJP will launch a month-long “Seva Sankalp Abhiyan” on September 17 to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 25 years in public office, combining service programmes with a nationwide showcase of his governance record.

Announcing the campaign at the party headquarters in New Delhi on Wednesday, BJP national president Nitin Nabin said it would continue until October 17. The milestone falls on October 7, a quarter-century after Modi first took oath as Gujarat chief minister in 2001.

Nabin presented the campaign as an effort to take Modi’s message of public service to people across the country, while crediting his leadership with economic growth, welfare expansion and a stronger global standing for India.

What will the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan include?

The campaign will begin on Modi’s birthday, September 17, which the BJP observes as “Seva Diwas”. Nabin said the opening programmes would include a blood donation camp and an “Ashirwad Ka Diya” event. The inaugural programme was also described as “Ashirbadar Banti”, or Lamp of Blessings.

A cleanliness drive is scheduled for October 2.

The party will organise photo and digital exhibitions tracing Modi’s journey in office, including his governance record, development initiatives and welfare schemes. Seminars and discussions will focus on good governance, development and Antyodaya, alongside interactive sessions with young people and other sections of society.

Special camps will explain Central and state government welfare schemes and the benefits available under them.

BJP national general secretary Vinod Tawde will oversee the campaign as its national convener. Each state will have a seven-member coordination team comprising a minister, an organisational general secretary and five senior leaders.

Nabin pitches a story of economic transformation

Making the case for Modi’s record, Nabin said India had moved from policy paralysis and its inclusion among the “Fragile Five” economies to becoming the world’s fastest-growing major economy.

He argued that the change extended to the country’s international standing and the aspirations of its young people.

“There was a time when the youth of the country were immersed in an atmosphere of despair,” Nabin said, adding that Modi had worked since 2014 to replace that sentiment with hope and optimism.

The BJP chief cited India’s startup ecosystem, describing the country as the world’s third-largest startup nation. Young people, he said, were increasingly becoming job creators. He also pointed to Khelo India and Fit India as initiatives encouraging youth participation.

Women, border villages and cultural heritage

Nabin highlighted women-led development, linking Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao with the Lakhpati Didi initiative. He also referred to the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam as part of efforts to strengthen women’s participation in policymaking.

On border development, he said the government had changed how communities were perceived by describing border settlements as India’s “first villages” instead of its “last villages”.

“This has not only brought changes in the lives of ordinary people, but has also altered people’s outlook towards these communities,” he said.

Nabin also claimed significant progress against Naxalism and said the government’s development agenda included strengthening cultural identity and heritage. He cited the Ram Mandir and Kashi Vishwanath as examples of preservation, restoration and development.

Why October 7 marks the milestone

Modi became Gujarat’s 14th chief minister on October 7, 2001. He served in the post for nearly 13 years before becoming Prime Minister in 2014.

Nabin traced Modi’s development agenda to his Gujarat tenure, citing work on the Narmada project and the Vibrant Gujarat initiative to attract investment.

“Gujarat’s growth became a development model that other states could aspire to emulate,” he said.

Describing Modi’s rise from a party worker to “Pradhan Sevak”, Nabin said the BJP had a responsibility to take that record to the public. The month-long campaign will combine that political message with service activities and welfare outreach.
