Vignettes of moveable roots

After 34 years, 3 countries, 10 cities and 23 houses that have been home, my equation with the word ‘roots’ is ambivalent. (There is kinship with the Water Lettuce, creature that bobs along on water bodies, carrying her roots with her). Working on these vignettes meant forging tenuous new ties with my father, whose bone structure and rogue streak I inherit; and who is a reluctant talker – far less a sentimentalist…
