The Pamban railway bridge in Tamil Nadu, connecting the pilgrim town of Rameswaram on Pamban island with the mainland , is more than a hundred years old. With 141 piers, the 2.06 km long bridge was the country’s first cantilever bridge and is now the second longest over sea water (after Mumbai’s Bandra-Worli link).
