A conversation with SNVL Narasimha Raju, President, Children’s Education Society (R); Chairman, The Oxford Educational Institutions
Your institution has established a firm name in the education sector. What makes it stand out from the rest? What are the strengths of the institution and why should students opt to educate themselves here?
The Oxford Educational Institutions (TOEI) not only concentrate on value education, but encourage students to become entrepreneurs and also to have their own startups. We attract students from across the globe who have utilized our high standards of teaching methodologies by our qualified and dedicated faculty. Our teaching learning process is based on motivation and discipline. All the institutions of TOEI have good infrastructure, state-of-art facilities, highly qualified and motivated faculty members for experiential and research oriented learning. We also believe that multi-disciplinary learning is the need of the hour and hence TOEI have moved towards this paradigm shift. As the current batch of students belong to Generation Z, we provide the most appropriate digital environment in learning and teaching. We also have derived a new policy like Student Development Mission for the 360 degree growth of the students. This is to transform every student as an ethical citizen.
What is the motto of your institution and how do you ensure that the motto is carried out?
Our motto is Vidya Sarvatra Shobhate. Oxfordites (students of TOEI) – wherever I go, whatever the weather may be, I will bring my own sunshine. TOEI strongly builds on the belief that investment in education always opens up new horizons for the students. We understand that students who graduate from our college will be placed in a healthy, productive and prospective society and will truly move towards a ‘more holistic and multi-disciplinary education.’ At our institutions emphasis is laid on extra-curricular activities and co-curricular activities via sports, cultural events, workshops and seminars for the all-round development of our students. Our goal is to focus on cultivating responsibility, patriotism, moral values and creativity among students and ensure that they are groomed to meet global challenges.
Given how competitive today’s world and the youth is, what processes is the institute involved in to ensure that you keep up with the times and provide the best facilities to the students.
Our Institutions are continuously upgraded with new facilities, new programmes year after year to cater to the needs of the ever changing requirements of the industries. Utmost importance is given to students and competency-based learning. This makes the teaching learning process blend well with skills in addition to imparting knowledge. In our vibrant campus, students are given plenty of opportunities for involving in community based activities and more. We also have counseling systems in place that cater to the mental and emotional needs of our students. Finally our aim is to ‘make our learners truly global citizens who are future-ready.’
The pandemic brought the entire world, including the education sector to a standstill. As an educator and a chairman, what are your takeaways from the pandemic and how do you think it is going to affect the education sector in the future?
The pandemic has given us lot of opportunities to learn and it has really pushed us get used to a new form of interaction and a new method of learning through virtual mode, which includes recent technologies, without affecting the education. Keeping social distancing and online classes in mind, remote access to library, virtual labs etc., were the new ways in which students could access the facilities on campus. The integration of online with the offline will be the future model of teaching and learning and TOEI is already on the path towards this hybrid journey, with the help of facilities for online interacting video lectures and MOOC platforms. Finally, the biggest take away is that we must always be ready for challenges which do not exist today and be future ready.
As a chairman, what are some of the achievements of your institutions that you are particularly proud of?
The TOEI group expands its intellectual presence on the global map by providing world class education in medical, dental, engineering, science, arts, business management, law and paramedical courses. The Institute collaborates with leading industries and many well-known institutes in the country for facilitating industry blended learning in cutting edge technologies. We also take pride in mentioning that TOEI is one of the most sought after educational institutes by students in India and foreign students. Our alumni have made their presence felt in India and the entire world and bring laurels to the Institution by their matchless contribution to the society.
The new National Education Policy 2020 is set to roll out for the upcoming academic year. As an educator, what are your thoughts on the same? What changes and transformations do you see for the Indian education system?
The emphasis on Institutional autonomy with grading will provide high quality education to all. NEP also gives importance to research in private institutions and this will benefit all as the policy doesn’t differentiate between public and private institutions. One of the key features introduced by NEP 2020 is multiple entry and exit point enabling life-long learning, which is a welcome move. The introduction of Establishment of Academic Bank of Credit (ABC), which would digitally store the academic credits earned by students towards various higher education institutions, for their degree is another great move. Support towards high-quality higher education institutions to teach in local/Indian languages or bilingually is a great push needed for our local languages. With State Government and Government of India releasing funds for the growth of all educational institution, irrespective of private or public institutions to move towards Multi-disciplinary Education and Research Universities (MERU) which change the face of the education system. And finally, high performing Indian universities will be encouraged to set up campuses in other countries and similarly under ‘Internationalization at home’, selected universities, those from among top 100 universities in the world will be facilitated to operate in India giving many students access to world class, high quality education.
