The heart is the most important organ – the lifeline of our existence. However, the health of our hearts has been dwindling gradually as the incidence of cardiac arrest is on an upswing. As per WHO estimates, an approximate 17.9 million deaths every year are caused by cardiovascular diseases (CVDs).
As per the Indian Heart Association, when heart diseases strike Indians, it tends to do so at an earlier age than other demographics, often without warning. So, what should be the solution to curb this? Primarily, the preventive measures. And India Health Link (IHL) has developed – the Heart Health Calculator, which serves as a preventive tool as it reveals the current status of your heart and points to take preventive measures to make your heart healthy in future.
“Preventive care is a clarion call for the entire healthcare ecosystem. The pandemic highlighted the need for prioritising preventive healthcare in the ecosystem. It saves lives, costs, and impending health hazards. Considering the dire need to prevent cardiovascular diseases, and especially, the rising incidence of heart attacks, we have developed Heart Health Meter, which serves as a preventive tool that helps in the heart risk assessment through various determinants that impact heart health,” says Dr Satyender Goel, Founder & CEO, India Health Link (IHL).
The Heart Health Calculator developed by IHL is a tool, which helps to measure heart health.
The risk assessments are calculated using several factors including Age, BMI, Blood Pressure levels, Cholesterol levels, Diabetes and smoking status, and the use of blood pressure-lowering medications.
Typically, these factors are used to estimate a patient’s risk of developing cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) in the next 10 years. Measuring your heart health can give you a general indication of how healthy you are. Simple measurements like blood pressure and cholesterol levels give you a snapshot of what’s going on internally and help you make adjustments to your lifestyle as needed.
IHL’s Heart Health Meter calculates this risk and also gives you recommendations and tips on diet and exercise to reduce or manage the risk. It’s the first step towards preventive health care for the heart.
