Yamuna Expressway Authority was set up by the Government of Uttar Pradesh with the explicit mandate to implement the Yamuna Expressway Project alongside the river Yamuna, together with the area falling adjacent to it in an environment-friendly manner. Today, the Expressway stands tall being India’s longest access controlled concrete paved expressway running from Greater Noida to Agra. To be precise, the 165 km long six lane road which can be extended to eight lanes connects the National Capital Region with Agra. The biggest boon that is travel time from Delhi to Agra has been brought down to 2 hours. Built at a cost of Rs. 128.39 billion or USD 1.9 billion, the rapid transit corridor is signal free.
It was inaugurated by the dynamic Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh – Shri Akhilesh Yadav.
Yamuna Expressway has been built to global standards. It is equipped with a state-of-the-art Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) and a comprehensive Corridor Control Management System to ensure safe and secure movement of passengers and freight traffic. Apart from this, the Yamuna Expressway Authority has spearheaded the Special Development Zone which helped make the Buddh International Race Circuit a reality. India’s first Formula One race track designed by German Architect Hermann Tilke is owned by Jaypee Sports International Ltd. It hosted India’s first F1 race and several other motor car races. The circuit is a part of the 2500 acre Jaypee Greens Sports City. A 1 lakh seat cricket stadium, 18 hole golf course, 25,000 seat hockey stadium and a sports academy are in the offing. An International Aviation Hub is also in the making.
The Yamuna Expressway Authority is working on bringing economic and industrial growth to Western Uttar Pradesh. This is envisaged through the “Smart Development” mode of Hi-Tech cities spread over a total area of 236,682 hectares of land. The presence of high-end infrastructure will give a boost to real estate. Townships, cities, industrial model townships, sports facilities, educational institutions etc are all being envisaged. Training for youth will ensure their employment potential given the large scale jobs which are likely to be created through the industrial zones. Mega Residential Plot schemes and Residential Townships will give a boost to residential development in the area.
The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) has given the green signal for Metro connectivity to Yamuna Expressway. This will increase connectivity especially for students. Several universities are coming up and it will turn the zone into a scholarly destination. It promises to be a well planned gen-next smart zone. The development of the land around the Expressway offers much potential for growth and socio- economic progress. It lays the foundation for all round inclusive development in days to come.
Dr. Arun Vir Singh, CEO, Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority
While the Yamuna Expressway has brought growth in Housing, Industrial and Institutional activities in addition to allotment of land for Electronic Manufacturing Clusters in the area, the presence of Buddha Circuit has added a feather in the cap of the authority which brought Formula One Racing in the country and helped the authority to showcase its real potential. This long 165 km stretch will have modern urban nodes and going forward we have many plans to propel Yamuna Industrial Authority to greater heights.”
