Nestled in the middle of a fruit orchard in the heart of Kumaon in the Himalayas, lies the peaceful resort of Whispering Heights. Perched at an altitude of 1,940 meters with forests of oak, rhododendron, deodar and pines all around, this mountain getaway is a far breath from bustle of city life. The topography and natural surroundings allow you the luxury of using your time the way you want—from challenging treks, to leisurely strolls, from wandering in the orchard to lazing by a gurgling stream with a book for company, there’s limitless space to do your own thing.
For the adventurous, a visit to Mukteshwar is a must. Mukteshwar is situated at an elevation of 2,285 meters above sea level in Nainital district of Uttarakhand state. Mukteshwar got its name from a 350-year old temple, Mukteshwer Dham, whose presiding deity is Lord Shiva. Nanda Devi, Nanda Kot, Nandaghunti, Trishul and Panchachuli are the major peaks visible from Mukteshwar. Mukteshwar is situated 25 kms from Ramgarh.
For those to whom an excursion without a little heritage holds no meaning, there’s a medieval temple you can walk to in half an hour from the resort. There’s also the Reeta Village, which you can trundle through, to get a peek into the lives of the locals.
All this, while you continue to enjoy the creature comforts you are so loath to bequeath.
