Having played different roles in various capacities like the Executive Director of Sona Valliappa Group, Vice Chairman of Sona College of Technology, Former President of BCIC, EFSI present member of SIMA, CITI, Founder and CEO of Play Factory and Sona Sports Entertainment Pvt Ltd, this multifaceted personality has to his credit a deep understanding of the importance of changing.
When the traditional and conventional teaching methodology required a facelift, Mr. Thyagu, an enterprising educationist as he is, opted for modern methods of teaching. Being a good listener, he always analyses any issue objectively which enables him to give practical solutions.
His ideas are welcome by people and they get impressed in the minds because of the terms he gives them, like ‘PEP’ for Placement Eligibility Passport, 3SL for the State level sports meet, ‘SOFIT’ for the fitness centre, to mention a few. All these attention- grabbing titles make the proposals and the projects significant and successful. The birth of STAR (Scientific, Technology, Automation through Research) which is Mr. Thyagu’s breakthrough initiative, is based on the principle of STEMS improving speeds, time, efficiency, money with safety. The focus is to create special purpose vehicle machines with a strong artificial intelligence linked to IOT and create futuristic equipment and technology for various sectors like services, agriculture, manufacturing and data management. Sona STAR will also create jobs and entrepreneurship across various sectors.
The connect Mr. Thyagu Valliappa has with industries is an important reason for bringing about changes in the system in terms of infrastructure, curriculum and human resource which helps in moulding the students into industry ready engineers. His proactiveness in building teams for specific tasks, creating facilities and establishing new centres has given fruitful results. The initiatives like start-ups incubators, entrepreneur development cell, focus on robotics, automation and artificial intelligence prove his interest in giving a positive direction to the advancement in digital manufacturing sectors. All these have ultimately made a positive impact on Sona’s growth and have brought in lots of laurels and accolades like AICTE- CII award for five consecutive years, ‘A’ grade by NAAC and top rank by NIRF.
A staunch believer of doing things differently, Mr. Thyagu Valliappa has lots in store for future. He is certainly an inexhaustible repository of innovative ideas.
