If Hulk Hogan had a hard disc drive, this would probably be it.
What would teenagers give to get their accessories branded in a fashionable manner? Recently, Skin Industries—yes, that great brand of pop culture clothing which you see on hunks like Hulk Hogan and Eddie Bravo to cuties like Jessica Kenney—came out with a product to let you do that with your portable hard disc drive as well.
Recently launched by Iomega, this fashion statement comes at a steep price: Rs 5,990 for a 500 GB disc drive. But there’s no denying that it looks super cool, just the way you would like to look amongst your peers. Currently available in Red Hot, Radical Black and Knock Out Silver designs, this disc drive also has some great features. It comes bundled with a complimentary 12 months subscription of Trend Micro’s Internet Security Suite, both for PCs and Macs. You also get Iomega’s Quick Protect backup software, Retrospect Express software to back up your applications and your data, and Mozy Home for online backups. The drive also features a Drop Protect, for drives dropping from up to a 51 ft height, which is approximately 40 per cent higher than the industry average. But its warranty stays at the industry standard three years.
It uses a USB 2.0 interface, and though Iomega has drives with USB 3.0 interface, this fashion statement is made to do without it. At the current price point, it is a bit expensive. However, the fact that I can now carry a radical black hard drive with a solid feel, going nicely with my self image, makes me want to go for it.
