A convenient 10 megapixel camera with full HD capability and long battery life.
As YouTube increasingly dominates how we communicate with our friends and families, old-age video cameras or even still-image cameras don’t make too much sense anymore. Today’s digital cameras can support high definition (HD) movies, and that’s all you need.
The always online geek has moved further and is now looking at hybrid cameras, such as the Creative Vado or Zi8 from Kodak. But it was Sanyo that came out with the Xacti and changed how bloggers and enthusiasts viewed the camcorder. It recently launched the latest edition of Xacti, model number VPC-PD2BK, and is calling it a dual camera. The camera is designed primarily to shoot videos, up to 1080 p at 30 fps, but it can also shoot images with its 10 megapixel image sensor. A 2 inch LCD on the back lets you look at what you are shooting, and the dedicated buttons for shooting still images and recording videos make it really easy to use. The sound quality recorded with its built-in stereo microphones is loud and clear. Also included is a 3x optical zoom lens with a sensitivity of ISO 50 to 400. For those of you keen on numbers, the lens has a focal length of 36 to 108 mm.
The superfast start-up, at 1.7 seconds, ensures you don’t miss a shot, and a 20 hour battery for a full HD movie capture ensures you don’t have to lug around its charger all the time.
The camera comes with direct output as well as a Mini HDMI to HDMI cable to plug into your TV, so that you may watch your videos in full high definition. And all you need to connect it to a computer is a USB 2.0 cable in to the built-in connector. The PD2BK uses SDXC memory cards and can support up to 64 GB of storage. This card can take in about 11 hours of video shot at full HD, or about 40 hours of standard definition video. The bundled software for this camera is Windows specific, but you can mount it as an external storage for Linux and Mac operating systems. Overall, if you are in the market for a digital camera, check out this ‘dual camera’.
