If you like to watch movies on your iPod, but wanted better sound, this is the one for you
The Apple iPod changed how the world wanted to listen to music. Sadly, there are also times when we don’t want plugged-in headphones and want a speaker to listen to the music, loud enough, with our family in the room. There are plenty of options, but recently Philips launched its SBD 8100 in India.
You tend to fall in love with the dock at first glance. It’s nice and curvy and the circular blue back light just seems to pull you towards it. It has a rotatable dock, which can dock any iPod, iPhone or Nano at the press of a button on the remote. The sound quality is good, and I was able to get quite a few people grooving to the beats of my iPod tunes, while testing it out at a Philips showroom.
The boombox runs on batteries, but can also run on AC power. It comes with a small remote control (which is not that good looking, but functional), a few adapters to help you fit in your Apple product, and in case you like the speakers a lot (which I did), you can also use an auxiliary input to connect it to other sources. A dedicated bass boost (DBB) button helps you pump up the bass. The speakers are isolated, so that in case a phone rings, you don’t hear that noisy beep from the mobile interference. You can turn the back light on or off depending on your mood.
