In the Android World, specs still matter a lot, and in case you are looking for a phone with the best specs, the LG G2 is here. The phone looks completely sealed, there is no replaceable battery, no visible buttons on the front or the sides, with just a micro SIM slot on the side like the iPhone’s. The power button and volume rocker are on the back side, right below the camera.
The G2 runs on a Quad Core Snap Dragon 800 processor with 2 gigabytes of RAM and a separate graphics RAM. It has a stunning 5.2-inch full HD IPS LCD display, a huge battery that lasts a full day, a 13 megapixel optical stabilised camera at the back with an LED flash, and runs on Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2. It also features a 2 megapixel front facing camera, NFC, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and an Infra Red Blaster.
Under normal lighting conditions, the camera speed and picture quality were good. In low light conditions the camera did not fare as well as I would have wanted, but the optical image stabilisation was clearly visible. The fast processor and dedicated graphic memory allowed quick switching between applications.
If the phone is lying on the table, you need not pick it up to unlock the screen, just double tap and the screen comes live; double tap again and the screen gets locked. The volume buttons serve another purpose: keep the volume-down button pressed when the screen is locked and the camera app comes up, keep the volume-up button pressed while the screen is locked and the note taking application pops up.
The phone also has multitasking features and resizeable windows, features I don’t find useful on a phone. The G2 does not accept any external storage, and that may be a negative for some. But with all my data in a cloud, that does not matter to me.
