It is not just a brighter phone, but with a new OS it is also smarter than the older iPhones.
The God of phones is here. After all these years of people trying to make iPhone Killers, the guys at Apple went one up last week when they launched the iPhone 4. This is the first time that iPhone is available without a contract and is also unlocked in most countries. It is unclear when we will see it in India. However, you can now buy unlocked versions of the phone and fly them into India.
The new iPhone 4 features a 5 megapixel camera with a 5 x zoom, and yes, an LED flash, which iPhones did not have till now. The camera is HD ready, and if you want, you can edit movies right on the phone by buying a $5 application called iMovie.
There are many new features in the iPhone 4, and the biggest is its stunning 900 x 640 pixel, 3.5 inch Retina display. It is sharper, more precise and possibly the best display on a smart phone in the market today.
As always, the new iPhone is now thinner, measuring a mere 9.3 mm, and has a brand new design, with the front and back made of aluminosilcate glass—it is 30 times harder than plastic and more scratch resistant than previous iPhones. The front and back glass also have an oil-resistant coating that helps keep it clean. Encircling iPhone 4 is a highly finished stainless steel band made of a custom alloy that is forged to be five times stronger than standard steel.
If you and your friends or family members have an iPhone 4 each, you can video chat with them. Currently, video chat works only over Wi-Fi and not over a 3G connection. Soon, however, we will see Skype video chat on it.
The iPhone 4 has a built-in, 3-axis Gyro in addition to the accelerometer, allowing you a revolutionary gaming experience and a total of 6-axis motion sensing.
The biggest hassle people had with their older iPhones was that they did not multi-task. The new iOS4 allows multi-tasking as well as brilliant applications such as the iBooks app that allows you to download, buy and read books on your phone. With over 5 million books in the iStore repository, the world is out there. Currently, the iPhone 4 is available only in black. But by July end, it is expected to be available in white too. I want one.
