Its processor is fast enough to extract the best performance from most games in the market.
Finally they’re here, Intel i7-powered Quad Core processor machines. Made primarily for gamers, these are very very fast machines. The MSI G Series launched this week with the GT640 notebook. It features the Intel Calpella flat screen at 15.4 inch and packs the fastest processor available. It also has an Nvidia GeForce GTS250 3D graphics card, making sure that you get a great experience while playing the games.
Available in a super-thin brushed aluminium alloy case, with a lava red trim, it reminded me of the erstwhile Acer Ferrari laptops, which also featured a Ferrari logo. The logo is missing here, but the alloy with red trim makes the machine look wonderful.
Though the processor is fast enough to handle the games that are available today, and the ones that will come out in the next few months, MSI has still built into it a ‘turbo boost over clocking mechanism’ to over clock your processor and achieve faster speeds. The frequently used WASD (W, A, S and D) keys, which are used a lot by gamers, are highlighted in red. Although the highlight makes it simpler to locate the keys, I would have preferred a backlit keyboard as most gamers play games in dark rooms.
The sound quality is great and the headphone output supports both digital and analog formats. For bigger setups, it can scale up to 7.1 channel surround sound. Running Windows 7, these machines are fast, but sadly MSI chose to ship them with only 1 GB RAM. You will need to upgrade this to at least 4 GB to get the best performance.
