Not another wannabe slimline, this laptop will do anything you throw at it
Here is confirmation that everybody wants to be called thin—even a laptop that is 2.5 cm ‘thin’, weighs 2.5 kg and has a 15 inch screen.
But just because it is not thin, it does not mean it’s no good. The Dell XPS 15z is powered by i5 and i7 processors, so you can’t call it a slow machine. It is a looker with a full HD 1080 p, 15.6 inch LED backlit screen and a backlit keyboard. If it is heavy, it’s got stamina too—with the battery rated for 7 hours. The body is made of aluminium-manganese alloy, which makes it look sober and dignified, if not hot and sexy. LED backlighting makes the screen brighter.
To enhance the viewing experience, it is powered by Nvidia GeForce graphic cards, which have 2 GB dedicated memory. The machine itself is powered by 8 GB of Ram. The hard disc is 750 GB and runs at 7200 rpm. It is also Bluetooth 3.0 enabled, so you can really extract the maximum from a faster rotating hard disc. The machine is big enough and fast enough to substitute any desktop, and handle all the work that is thrown at it.
The XPS 15z comes with an HDMI port and supports 5.1 channel sound. The sound is enhanced by Waves MaxxAudio’s digital sound processing system. If you like to web chat, you would like the 1.3 megapixel webcam with its integrated dual mike (array digital microphone). With the Intel Wireless Display technology on this laptop, you can beam sound and video to a supported audio or video peripherals. It also has a 9-in-1 media card reader and a Mini Display port.
For optical storage, it has a slot-loading DVD-RW. It is nice, but I would have been happier with a Blu-ray. They might as well have done away with the DVD and made the machine a lot thinner. Pre-loaded Windows 7 Home Premium and a one-year warranty are bundled with this Dell. And at this price point, regardless of size, it is worth the money.
