It is not the first thin and light laptop. But it is thin and light without any loss of performance
Thin and light is in fashion, and everyone is making their machines slim down. It started with Sony Vaio X, but this pretty little machine running on an Atom processor was low on computing power. Then came the new MacBook Air from Apple. Though it has a wonderful processor, it was a no-no for those who don’t like Apple. Redemption for them comes in the shape of Dell Vostro V130.
It has plenty of processor options to choose from, from Dual Core Celeron to Intel Core i5. Not only is it as thin as it can get, it will give you the performance you want. For display, it has a 13.3 inch high definition LED backlit. For storage, you can choose between a 128 GB solid state drive or 500 GB hard disk drive. While you get only two to three hours of backup with its 6-cell battery, the machine weighs only 1.59 kg and its screen is 0.65 inches at its thinnest and 0.78 inches at the thickest.
It has lots of connectivity options, with two USB 2.0 ports, an eSATA and USB 2.0 combo port, a 5-in-1 card reader, HDMI and VGA port for display options and wired Ethernet. And like it or hate it, all the wires connect only behind the machine. The card reader, however, is placed in front.
The specs of this well-designed machine are impressive too. It supports up to 4 GB of RAM, has an integrated 2.0 megapixel webcam, and there’s the microphone/headset jack besides an integrated microphone. On the connectivity front, it has a Bluetooth v3.0 High Speed connect. The V130 also allows you to use a Sim card should you want to use a 3G network. In a Wi-Fi network, it is compatible with 802.11 a/b/g/n, so that you can hook up to any of the new-generation Wi-Fi networks.
Designed for durability, it features an aluminium anodised case with zinc hinges, and a magnesium alloy palm rest. It has a full-sized keyboard and a very large touch pad—both of which make this machine rather comfortable to use. The Vostro V130 is available in Lucerne Red and Aberdeen Silver colours.
