Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt appeared before the National Commission for Women (NCW) on April 27 after being summoned over concerns related to alleged obscenity and vulgarity in the song “Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke.” The Commission had taken note of the song’s content and sought an explanation regarding Dutt’s involvement.
During the hearing, Dutt clarified that he had no role in shaping the song’s content. He stated that he had no prior knowledge, involvement, or control over the lyrics, translation, creative composition, or final presentation of the track. According to him, his role was limited to performing as an actor under contractual obligations.
Yes. Despite distancing himself from the creative aspects of the song, Dutt tendered a sincere apology before the Commission. He expressed respect for the dignity of women and broader societal values, signalling a conciliatory approach during the proceedings.
In a significant move, Dutt voluntarily undertook to sponsor the education of 50 girls, particularly from tribal communities in Nagpur, Maharashtra, for the upcoming academic year. He is expected to report compliance with this commitment within three months.
Through his legal team, Dutt assured the Commission that his future professional engagements would include safeguards to ensure that no artistic work associated with him disrespects women, children, or any individual.
